Highwood Copse Primary School

SCHOOL COUNCIL

At Highwood Copse, our School Council plays a vital role in ensuring that every child’s voice is heard. We believe in empowering our pupils to take an active role in shaping their school experience, fostering a culture of democracy, leadership, and responsibility.

Our council is made up of representatives from across the school, who meet regularly to discuss ideas, share concerns, and help implement positive changes. Through these discussions, our pupils develop key life skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, while learning the importance of diplomacy and respectful debate.

This year, the School Council has led exciting initiatives, including organising events, running school-wide competitions, and working on projects that enhance our school environment. With a strong focus on pupil voice, we encourage children to bring forward their ideas, ensuring they play an active role in decision-making. They have raised money for charities, such as: Newbury Soup Kitchen, the RSPCA, and the NSPCC.

By being part of the School Council, our pupils learn that their opinions matter and that they can make a real difference to their school and community.

The council get involved in a number of different activities and events.
